Gearbox Software, the Texas-based development studio known for the Borderland franchise, has unveiled Battleborn, a brand new MOBA-style action game in development for PC.

In Battleborn, players are thrust into a vibrant fantasy universe on the brink of extinction that is spurred by a deadly menace. The last hope for survival lies in a group of warriors.

Players can choose from the game's diverse array of heroes as they engage in battle in either competitive multiplayer matches or a cooperative campaign.

Gearbox and publisher 2K Games released a cinematic trailer for Battleborn, in which a female archer is pursued by a large horde of enemies through a forest. She eventually joins forces with a band of heroes from the game including a rifle-wielding robotic character in a suit.

The game features stylized animated visuals and character design that wouldn't look out of place in a Pixar film. You can watch the debut trailer for Battleborn in its entirety below.

Battleborn is also featured as Game Informer's cover story for its August 2014 issue, in which the developer discusses the upcoming game's 5v5 Incursion multiplayer mode that combines first-person combat and team-based strategy.

2K Games and Gearbox Software haven't announced an official release date for Battleborn yet, but you can visit the official website for future updates on the game before it launches on PC.
